Children

Since 2002, Malawi is suffering from a severe famine. This is the worst crisis in 60 years. After a peak of food shortage that has reached almost two thirds of the population two years ago, the percentage has hovered around 30%. Which means that one in three people in the small southern African country, has not enough food to survive.
The overall situation is aggravated by the high incidence of HIV, which has increased the premature death and brought life expectancy just 37 years.
Children are most affected by the crisis. Each year about 70,000 children lose a parent.
